Position Title: Computer Technician III
Security Clearance (Required): Secret (Deal Breaker)
Certifications (Required): Computing Environment, Security+ (or equivalent DOD Directive 8570.1 IAT II) or A+/Network+ (or equivalent DOD Directive 8570.1 IAT I) (Deal Breaker).
Position Description:
The Computer Technician III supports the OTC mission at Ft. Bragg, NC by:
- Technical knowledge of installing, configuring, repairing, and maintaining software, hardware, configurations, and peripherals
- Isolating equipment/system/software malfunctions and restoring failed equipment to good working order
- Conducting operational checks and replacing defective parts and assemblies
- Applying technical knowledge and training to solve routine and complex problems in the maintenance of digital computers, configuration and peripheral components
- Performing Tier I and Tier 2 deskside incident resolution of workstations, printers and peripheral devices
- Monitoring and responding to hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of hardware including printers and software testing tools and techniques
- Ensuring proper computer system setup/operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks
- Receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests
- Maintaining knowledge of diagnostic and help desk request tracking tools, as well as remote and in-person, hands-on help at the desktop level
- Under direct supervision, assisting with network hardware, servers and software installation, troubleshooting and support
- Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
- Participating in special projects as required
- Assisting with Asset Management and Inventory of IT assets
- Assisting with security vulnerability remediation
- Assists the Government in providing VTC support, as required
- Proficiency with Anti-virus software / configuration
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as cable making/repair, IP address schema, and LAN implementation and configuration
Typical actions include:
- Isolating equipment/system/software malfunctions
- Returning failed equipment to good working order and demonstrating the equipment to the user
- Working as a team member in the installation, configuration, repair, and maintenance of computer equipment, peripherals, and applications
- Performing repairs and conducting operational checks, and preventive maintenance service on computer systems, related systems, and office equipment
- Replacing defective parts and assemblies
- Ensuring timely responses to reports of unexpected malfunctions or failures
- Documenting all task responses, labor and material usage data as required
- Working with System Administrators to maintain network resources and working with Backup Software for network resource backup maintenance and storage of tapes
- Following established procedures to ensure achievement of quality, training, safety, and security standards
Required Education and Experience:
- High School/GED AND minimum of 7 years’ experience, or
- Associates in directly related field AND minimum of 5 years’ experience, or
- Bachelors in non-directly related field AND minimum of 5 years’ experience, or
- Bachelors in directly related field AND minimum of 3 years’ experience, or
- Masters in directly related field AND minimum of 1 year experience
Relevant education must be in an IT discipline related to the assigned program area (e.g., Network Engineering, Network Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer or Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Forensics/Security, etc.
Relevant experience must include technical knowledge of installing, configuring, repairing, and maintaining software, hardware, configurations, and peripherals, isolating equipment/system/software malfunctions and restoring failed equipment to good working order, conducting operational checks and replacing defective parts and assemblies. Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as cable making/repair, IP address schema, and LAN implementation and configuration.

- Able to work under the supervision of senior technicians
- Full body mobility; be able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Have own transportation
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills
- Strong documentation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
