Position: Senior Database Administrator
Location: Rockville, MD
Scope: Serves as the Senior Database Administrator on a major IT services contract for the U.S. Navy.
Responsibilities: The Senior Database Administrator oversees and supports the operational requirements of database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability. Responsibilities include the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of database environments, as well as ensuring data integrity and availability across systems. This role involves managing database servers, monitoring system performance, implementing database upgrades, and creating backups to safeguard critical data.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain database servers, including the design, implementation, and optimization of databases to meet organizational requirements, Microsoft SQL Server.
- Install and configure database management systems (DBMS), perform software upgrades, and manage user accounts and access controls.
- Ensure the security and integrity of data through robust practices such as encryption, access restrictions, and the implementation of security tools.
- Perform regular performance tuning, capacity planning, and system diagnostics to ensure databases run efficiently and meet business needs.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including system configurations, security policies, and troubleshooting guides.
- Implement and manage disaster recovery solutions, including backup and recovery procedures and replication strategies to minimize downtime.
- Train IT staff and end-users on database systems and provide ongoing technical support for database-related issues.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate databases with applications and optimize system performance across the network.
- Monitor and analyze database performance metrics, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and other performance issues.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and Navy Cyber Workforce (CWF) directives, maintaining certifications and documentation required for database systems and users.
Qualifications: Master’s level degree in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Mathematics with field of concentration in computer science with 7 years of professional experience in database management using MS SQL Server.

Salary: $118K – $144K
