Qualifications
Shall have a Bachelor’s Degree in one (1) of the following disciplines: English, Journalism, Communications or other scientific discipline and six (6) years of experience with technical writing for DoD research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) Programs. (2) Shall have five (5) years of leadership experience.
Job Description
This is a union position. Will Serve as working leader to technical writers. Reviews completed projects from others. Requires extensive knowledge of regulations and policies affecting Government publications, publishing concepts, practices, and standards, and recent advances in publishing technology. Requires extensive familiarity with technical terminology, jargon, format, and multimedia formats. Develop, write, and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications. Focuses on work methods and procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
Responsibilities include:
• Serve as working leader for the Technical Writing team
• Receive and assign work to team members as required
• Assist team with the production of technical reports
• Perform quality reviews of team’s work
• Organize reference materials to include style guides, pamphlets, regulations, etc.
• Standardize processes for team activities
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
• Develop, review, and maintain report templates
• Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to document operating procedures and details
• Develop, write, and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
• Arrange for duplication and distribution of material when required
• Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
• Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers
• When required, write material regarding work methods and procedures.
• When required, support test directors/engineers in the field.
• Perform Technical Writer I and II duties when required
• Other duties as assigned
