Senior Linux Systems Administrator

  • Position: Systems Administrator IV

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support a critical government IT services contract. The successful candidate will act as a primary subject matter expert for Linux infrastructure, automation, and high-availability systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), enterprise production environments, and network storage. As a senior member of the team, the candidate will also provide technical guidance and mentorship to other IT professionals.

Core Responsibilities & Technical Qualifications

  • Linux Systems Administration: Install, configure, and manage UNIX variants, with a heavy emphasis on Red Hat Linux server operating systems and associated middleware.
  • Technical Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource, providing mentorship, guidance, or team lead support to junior administrators and technical staff.
  • Automation & Deployment: Manage complex production environments using automated installation, automated build and deployment, and automated configuration management frameworks.
  • Scripting Proficiency: Write and utilize operating system commands and scripts to automate routine tasks, utilizing one or more of the following: Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ruby, or Perl.
  • High-Availability Infrastructure: Build, maintain, and support clustered, scalable, and high-availability systems, including load balancing, web servers, application servers, and server virtualization.
  • Networking & Troubleshooting: Apply foundational networking principles (TCP/IP, firewalls, routing, VLANs) to perform general network troubleshooting and resolve complex system issues.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Utilize enterprise monitoring tools for event and performance monitoring. Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and bottleneck resolution.
  • Security & Compliance: Apply Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to harden systems, remediate advanced security vulnerabilities, manage identity and access configurations, and ensure overall system security compliance.
  • System Lifecycle Management: Plan and execute seamless operating system upgrades and environment migrations with minimal mission impact.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vulnerability Scanning (ACAS): Experience utilizing the Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) for vulnerability scanning, analysis, and compliance reporting.
  • Windows Administration: Familiarity or experience with Microsoft server operating systems, Windows event and performance monitoring, and Microsoft middleware.
  • Database Technologies: Knowledge of database technologies, including installation and configuration of database management systems and migration of databases.

Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations. Education must be in a directly related IT discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer/Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, or Computer Forensics/Security).

  • High School Diploma / GED: Minimum of 11 years of directly related IT experience.
  • Associate’s degree: Minimum of 9 years of directly related IT experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Minimum of 7 years of directly related IT experience.
  • Master’s Degree: Minimum of 5 years of directly related IT experience.

Certifications

  • DoD Directive 8570.01 Compliance: Must possess a current Security+ certification (or equivalent IAT Level II baseline certification).
  • Computing Environment (CE): Must hold at least one current Computing Environment certification, or be able to obtain one within 6 months of start. Given the technical requirements of this role, a Linux-based certification (e.g., Red Hat Certified System Administrator [RHCSA] or Red Hat Certified Engineer [RHCE]) is strongly preferred.

  • Five years’ experience in working and collaborating with customers relying on computers and IT support for Department of the Army (DA) civilians, contractors, and permanent party military personnel.
  • Five (5) years related experience for the Project Manager or must demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the past 10, working as a Project Manager.

SCOPE: Serves as a Technical Project Manager/Team Lead providing leadership and supervisory oversight of team of IT professionals for the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) Headquarters. This is an onsite position with potential for hybrid telework.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 5 years of experience leading 20 or more employees.
  • Security+ (or equivalent DOD 8570.1 IAT II certification) and (1) Computing Environment certification in relevant field.
  • (1) certification in the project management field (e.g., CompTIA Project+ or PMI certification, etc.).

Development Lead

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary development team, driving performance, collaboration, and innovation.

Cybersecurity Lead

POSITION: Cybersecurity Lead

LOCATION: Huntsville, AL

SCOPE: Serves as a Cybersecurity on a major IT services contract for the U.S. Army

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver cyber artifacts to support the RMF process for each modernization project. Provide the Government with all assessment artifacts necessary for technical and security review.
  • Prior to production deployment, any recommended technology must receive formal approval from the Government and be authorized for incorporation into ATEC network boundaries.
  • These include: network boundary diagram, hardware list, software list, completed Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)/Security Requirements Guides (SRGs), list of cyber artifacts, encryption methods, system enterprise and information security architecture diagram, and information flow diagram.
  • Ensure network components (including wireless and fiber technologies) are securely integrated into the existing Army environment.
  • Ensure proper encryption, implement access controls and document cybersecurity controls for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Provide necessary artifacts to meet RMF requirements for the deployed systems under this TO.
  • To accompany the capabilities deliverable, all artifacts which support obtaining an Army RMF Authorization to Operate (ATO) related to the network components must be provided to each site in accordance with the U.S. ARCYBER and U.S. Army NETCOM standards.
  • These artifacts include: network boundary diagram, hardware list, software list, system enterprise and information security architecture diagram, information flow diagram, and created Plans of Actions and Milestones (POAMs) that capture rationale and mitigations for vulnerabilities or configurations that cannot be applied.
  • Perform patch management and security update operations support to maintain operating environment compliance until turnover of site is complete. Verify that unpatched vulnerabilities are documented and approved by the Authorizing Official via a POAM.
  • Responsible for patch and security update support, including:
  • Authoring and maintaining SOPs, policies, and appropriate patch/security documentation, including policies detailing patch and security update processes and procedures.
  • Providing oversight and periodic review of the patch management process.
  • Deploying and managing all patch/security update operations.
  • Performing patch and security update deployment testing.
  • Providing patch and security update status reports.
  • Complying with DoD rules and regulations governing patch and security update operations.
  • Ensuring end-point security tools operate in compliance with all devices and monitor, alert, troubleshoot non-compliance incidents.
  • Developing, updating, and maintaining existing and future baseline documentation of each system and application, including designs, build procedures, requirements documents, test procedures, problem reports, software code, and system knowledge base. Final documentation must be approved by the Government.
  • Safeguard all Government data according to Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) standards and all applicable regulations regarding this subject.
  • Follow the processes and procedures required for achieving CMMC Level 3 certifications and utilize authorized CMMC Level 2 Self Assessments to assess existing DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Assessment results shall be uploaded to CMMC Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) within ten business days.
  • Safeguard and encrypt all DoD emails in order to conduct regular correspondence and send products that are related to projects and Government day-to-day operations over acceptable DoD means of communication.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required Certifications (CAP, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP)
  • GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC) (GLSC)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Manager (CISSM), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Possess an industry certification and demonstrated success executing deploying the technical solution in an environment similar in size and scope to the requirement.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience (within the last seven years) in the field of DoD Information Systems Security and/or Cybersecurity.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience (within the last seven years) creating RMF packages and entering the data into eMASS to obtain an ATO/Authority to Connect, including all the ancillary artifacts. Minimum of one year experience working U.S. Army RMF processes.

Server Lead

SCOPE: Acts as Server Lead on a major IT services contract for the U.S. Army

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work with the following Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022)

  • Provide hardware/software administration for server and network infrastructure. The contractor shall provide SA support to maintain highly secure and available systems (24/7 basis) by adhering to Army Information Management & Technology (IM&T) standards, regulations, and implementing industry practices.
  • Implement and maintain all necessary services and protocols, including vProxy, DD Boost, NDMP, REST APIs, S3-compatible object storage, and integration with VMware vCenter and vSphere environments.
  • Ability to work with Application-aware backup agents for platforms such as SQL Server must be included to ensure data consistency and rapid recovery.
  • Conduct data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis, and uses scientific techniques to correlate data into graphical, written, visual and verbal narrative products, enabling more informed analytic decisions.
  • Proactively retrieve information from various sources, analyze it for better understanding about the data set, and builds AI tools that automate certain processes.
  • Duties typically include creating various ML-based tools or processes, such as recommendation engines or automated lead scoring systems.
  • Perform statistical analysis, apply data mining techniques, and builds high quality prediction systems.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a web site that is accessible by all the IC members and the various branches of the Army.
  • Create and develop computer software configuration documentation, user manuals, and provide one-on-one consultation to the branch chiefs and senior analysts.
  • Conduct coordination with internal and external information technology service providers to help maintain and improve the sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field and 12 years’ relevant experience; with a portion of the experience within the last 2 years, or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 years of relevant experience, or
  • Associate degree and 16 years of relevant, or
  • High school diploma and 20 years of relevant experience.
  • Security Plus certified
  • Qualified at Information Assurance Technical Workforce Requirement Level II as defined in DoD 8570.01-M, Table C3.T1. Conduct coordination with internal and external information technology service providers to help maintain and improve the sites.
