Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answers and route trouble calls reported to the helpdesk
  • Annotates trouble ticket status
  • Maintains computer related software and hardware trouble logs in electronic format
  • Performs computer maintenance, administration, and Repair
  • Performs Tier I Helpdesk Service Desk Operations; Triage Incident tickets issued according to their assigned area(s) of responsibility utilizing the Work Ordering system.

Job Description

IT Systems Engineer Lead

POSITION TITLE:               IT Systems Engineer Lead

Lead Systems Engineer/Ops Lead will be responsible for the delivery of IT service and projects in support of NOAA’s National Ocean Service (NOS), managing all aspects of Enterprise IT Operations including Service Desk, SAN, servers, LAN, and WAN for a Microsoft centric frameworks that supports a headquarters operation of over 500 employees with another 300 field employees in 16 locations.

This is an important role and require architectural and hands-on Windows administration skills with a specific focus on continual service improvement (CSI) and subject matter expert troubleshooting support. Working alongside a dynamic operations team that includes Windows system administrators, Mac Administrators, Linus, Cloud Administrator, SharePoint, storage engineer and technical leadership. The position will focus on managing all systems administration duties including troubleshooting and resolving issues at the operating system or server level.

Successful delivery of these IT services includes the following high-level objectives

  • Overall engineering responsibility for the system

Linux Admin/IT Support

POSITION TITLE: Linux Admin/IT support for NOAA’s Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR)

POSITION SCOPE:
This position serves as a member of the IT Team that supports the complex infrastructure of NOAA’s Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) at NOAA’s Center for Weather and Climate Predictions in College Park Maryland. The team supports an environment that includes over 400 servers, both virtualized and bare metal primarily running CentOS. In conjunction with over 10 Petabytes of both SAN and clustered storage. End users include over 200 science researchers and analysts who develop and validate products used to measure, analyze and monitor the oceans and atmosphere using NOAA data from environmental satellite. The environment also include apache web servers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provide systems administration and general support for the STAR infrastructure.
● Serve as a member of a small team of IT Service provides who support the researchers and analysts who execute the STAR mission.
● Administer, monitor and maintain Linux/CentOS servers including unboxing, provisioning, baseline configuration, ongoing configuration management, patching, and decommissioning.
● Perform Tier 1-2 helpdesk support the STAR systems entering and executing tickets in the STAR Ticketing system.
● Monitor system performance and resource utilization
● Assist with patching and developing and implementing firewall rules and security controls
● Follow and support STAR Configuration Management practices
● Setup and manage hardware and software for STAR storage systems
● Maintain documentation regarding system configurations and processes.

● Experience and demonstrable expertise with the following technologies:
o CentOS/RedHat or comparable Linux distributions
o Ability to compile software packages from source (FORTRAN and IDL)
o TCP/IP, UDP/IP, SSH, DNS, NFS, and Firewalls
o Syslog, selinux, DMZ implementation principles
o Change management
o git revision control
o Scripting: Bash, perl, python, and/or ruby, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the reception area to ensure effective telephone and communications in professional manner.
  • Planning events such as scheduling appointments for executives, planning corporate parties, luncheons, etc.
  • Maintains the office areas and equipment, as well as the layout, arrangement, and housekeeping of office facilities.
  • Supervises and maintains office equipment, including copier, postage and fax machines, etc.
  • Negotiates the purchase of office supplies, furniture, and equipment, etc., for the HQ and field staff in accordance with company purchasing policies and budget.
  • Coordinates and makes travel arrangements for corporate personnel.
  • Responsible for the facilities’ day-to-day operations (such as distributing building access keys and back-up to security access cards, etc.)
  • Participates (as needed) in special department projects.
